Snowdon covers a huge area in the north of the Snowdonia National Park but fortunately each of the main Snowdon summit paths are served by car parks of varying size and availability. Depending on which route up Snowdon you plan to tackle, you’ll find everything you need to know about Snowdon parking right here.
Llanberis Path
If you’re climbing Snowdon along the Llanberis Path then head for the large village of Llanberis which offers the most parking choices of all Snowdon routes. Which is fortunate as it’s the most popular choice.
The largest car park in the village and the one that’s closest to the start of the Llanberis Path is privately run by the adjacent Royal Victoria Hotel. Head towards LL55 4TU (not very accurate) or goo.gl/maps/RP4cDnWP3sEtBtMT9 or ///shady.ground.joys and look for the large blue ‘PARKING FOR SNOWDON’ signs immediately opposite the Snowdon Mountain Railway. Pay your £11 for the day or £6 if you arrive after 3pm. No cash here just contactless or payment via the RingGo app (location code 21468). There’s room for around 200 cars but it will still fill up by late morning on busy weekends. Beware this car park is only open between 6am and 11pm and you are likely to get a penalty notice if you arrive outside of this time.
There are numerous other private and local authority car parks further into the village all within a few minutes walk of the start point for the Llanberis Path. The next nearest is the Llanberis Community Centre which opens its car park most days. Head to LL55 4UR (not very accurate) or goo.gl/maps/mf2yq6mBkjnWUuB29 or ///pace.dries.sued. Here you’ll pay £8 for the day or £4 if you arrive after 1pm. You can pay here using coins or by physical and contactless card payments. This is a smaller car park and only has around 30 spaces. Look out for the yellow ‘LLWYBR I’R WYDDFA/PARKING FOR SNOWDON PATH’ signs.
You might save another pound or two by carrying on into the village car parks but having your car waiting for you right at the end of your walk is usually worth the extra. Don’t try and park in the village’s side streets. There are parking restrictions everywhere (for obvious reasons). Your best bet in the public car parks.
Pyg Track, Miners’ Track and Crib Goch
Parking for these hugely popular starting points can be difficult at times. Out of season, the Pen-y-Pass car park at LL55 4NU or ///brush.ringers.recline is usually fine (although still expensive at £10 a day) however even on busy weekends you’ll need to arrive early. In recent years, between April and November the car park operates a pre-booking system only via JustPark at a somewhat pricey £18 for eight hours, £25 for up to 12 hours and £40 for 12-24 hours. If you don’t want to pay to park at Pen-y-Pass or it’s fully booked then roadside parking is available on the A498 just up from the Pen y Gwryd Hotel at LL55 4NT or ///spun.rail.ulterior where a permissive footpath will take around 30 mins to reach Pen-y-Pass. The Park & Ride service from nearby Nant Peris is a much more cost effective option (details below).
Snowdon Ranger Path
Accessed from the A4085 on the west side of Snowdon, the Snowdon Ranger Path has a very small (but little used) car park operated by Snowdonia National Park Authority. You’ll find it opposite the YHA Snowdon Ranger Hostel near to LL54 7YS or ///tripling.vegetable.bells. The daily rate is £6 or £3 for up to three hours and both cash and card payments are accepted. There’s space here for around 30 cars and it will only be full on sunny weekends and busy summer days.
Rhyd Ddu Path
Just up the road from the Snowdon Ranger Path is the Rhyd Ddu path. It shares a car park with Rhyd Ddu station on the Welsh Highland Railway but it’s rarely busy. Aim for LL54 6TH or ///january.smuggled.united. The site is run by Snowdonia National Park Authority and operates card payments only by chip and pin or contactless. Standard daily rate of £6 or £3 for up to three hours applies.
Watkin Path
The popular (but tough) Watkin Path is served by the Pont Bethania car park in Nant Gwynant. You’ll find it near to LL55 4NR or ///evoked.eased.variously. Operated by Snowdonia National Park Authority, this car park can be busy on summer weekends so aim to arrive early. Standard daily rate of £6 or £3 for up to four hours and chip and pin and contactless payments are accepted.
Nant Peris Park and Ride
The small village of Nant Peris at the bottom of the Llanberis Pass sits in between Llanberis and Pen-y-Pass. Here you’ll find a large car park operated by Snowdonia National Park Authority near to LL55 4UF or ///websites.affirming.subtitle where a frequent park and ride service will take you up to Pen-y-Pass. Parking costs £5 for the day and payment is accepted by cash or card using chip and pin or contactless. The Shuttle bus is part of the Snowdon Sherpa service. Tickets are bought on the bus and contactless payment is accepted. Tickets cost just £2 for an adult single or £3 for an adult return (£1 for a child single and £1.50 for a child return) with a Snowdon Sherpa ‘hop on hop off’ day ticket costing £5 for adults and £2.50 for children. Dogs are welcome on all Snowdon Sherpa services.
